3003 in London
221 Portnall Road the one with the red door
We struggled to the Post Office and off loaded unwanted items this morning. Got rid of 9 kilos so we are down to 10 kilos each: now that's a good beginning for going to Morocco.
Next we caught the No 18 bus over to Kilburn to find the house where my dad was born. Although it was drizzling I was really pleased we braved the bus system and worked it out as well. The walk from the bus station is quite long as the house number is 221 Portnall Road. It used to be Southall but the area has been renamed.
Back on the bus and we then caught the tube with three changes to go to Canary Wharf. Didn't stay long as it is just another huge complex of shops with the ubiquitous crowd of shoppers so back to the labyrinth to find our way back to the British Museum. We have become numero uno negotiators of the public transport systems and feel proud of ourselves.
We spent time with the Egyptian collection again. It is larger than life and therefore mind blowing and we find we can't spend more than an hour or two before calling it quits until next time. The greatest museum in the world!!! Strangely enough, we had breakfast this morning with a Belgian man who was in London to be interviewed for the Discovery Channel. Turned out he read the 2500 year old book by Herodotus who said that once he saw the Labyrinth in Egypt, the Pyramids didn't impress him any more. Patrick Geryl then worked out where the Labyrinth is, 100 kms south of the Pyramids, and he and a group have been excavating the site until recently when politics got in the way. His interview was connected to several books he has written on the subject. Coincidences keep happening.
